Tips and other useful information

This page contains general hints and tips which will help you use BuddyBackup effectively.

Leave BuddyBackup running

BuddyBackup takes some time to startup because it has to check all your watched directories for changes. Similarly, it also takes a few moments to shutdown.

Therefore, it is worth leaving BuddyBackup running all the time if possible.

This will also mean that any work which has to be done (such as copying files or backing up to your buddies) is staggered rather than happening all in one go.

Check the Status Panel to see which files aren't backed up

If you notice that some of your files aren't backed up (for example, the status icon is red), check the status panel to find out exactly which ones. You may find that the files which need to be backed up are not important, so for example, you can exit safely.

Don't exit if you want your files to be backed up

If you want your files to be backed up, consider leaving your PC on if possible (e.g. during the day or overnight). This will mean that, should your buddies come online, you files will be backed up. Also, this is good for your buddies because it will allow them to backup to you if they need to.
