Online Backup System Security

n+1

Databarracks backup infrastructure is based around an n+1 configuraton. This simply means that all Databarracks storage and data centre infrastructure is redundant to ensure the avilability of our backup systems and our customers data avilability. We are naturally cautious and ensure that there are no single points of failure anywhere within our systems or data centre.

Examples of our n+1 infrastructure are as follows, but are also laid out in more detail in our system overview diagram and also our data centre pages. Also take a look at our replication page to find out about how we replicate your data for added security.

System Redundancy:

  • Load balanced firewalls
  • Clustered backup database servers
  • Load balanced switches
  • Four independant backup nodes for processing incoming data
  • All redundant systems kept seperately in different data centre areas
  • System monitoring 24/7/365 using both Nagios and Cacti
  • Mirrored operating systems
  • RAID5 on all storage servers
  • All storage servers replicated to a different data centre area
  • All systems have multiple power sources and UPS

Data centre redundancy:

  • Power - independant feeds direct from the national grid
  • Backup generators allow the facility to run for 30 days in the event of a power loss
  • n+1 redundant UPS into all data centre areas
  • Fault tolerant, redundant core network
  • Four independant communication links from different carriers
  • CCTV with motion tracking
  • Guarded by trained security guards with dogs 24/7/365
