The data recovery process is highly dependant on the type of data and the media upon which it is stored. For more details on the most commonly requested scenarios, please select from the list above. If your data loss issue concerns a proprietary or otherwise unusual data or media type, then please call or email us to discuss your options.

People lose access to data for a multitude of reasons. The two most common categories of data loss are logical and physical.

Logical

A client may be unable to access data for logical reasons where the storage medium is functioning correctly, but the structures of the data are unrecognizable by the relevant computer system.

Through the use of software tools, the data structure can be repaired and the data copied out to a secondary storage medium, ready for access by any computer.

Physical

Physical malfunction of the storage hardware is much more serious. A client may be unable to access data as a result of physical reasons, where the media that holds the data is no longer functioning. These scenarios range from external factors such as the media being damaged by fire/flood etc, to internal factors with failures occurring like electrical 'burn out' or head crashes.

Where data loss has occurred due to physical issues like electrical, mechanical failure or media damage, the drive may need replacement parts and to be disassembled in our class 100 clean room environments, to prevent damage to the disk platters upon which the magnetic media stores data.

In case of physical malfunction we do not return the media after data is recovered, as per warranty purposes. If you need the media back for any reason, please state so on you assessment form
