How Virtual Disaster Recovery Works
Virtual disaster Recovery (VDR) is available to customer who use Databarracks Arxcis fully managed online backup service. Virtual Disaster Recovery gives a platform from which ‘bare metal backups’of a single server or multiple servers can be quickly recovered into Databarracks virtual disaster recovery platform. These server images can then quickly be shared back to you either individually or - in the event of a catastrophic loss of your site -, as a whole.
Users are then able to logon to Databarrack’s VDR platform which will deliver applications and the underlying server infrastructure to users who can work from any internet connected machine, anywhere in the world.
The Virtualisation Process
Your servers are virtualised by a snapshot of the system being taken which converts the entire server into a few files representing the hardware configuration, operating system installation, and the application installation. Once the snapshot is taken, it is copied to a hard drive which is backed up onto our virtual disaster recovery servers. The image is shut off and kept as a saved file which can be opened up when required on any physical server. In the meantime, periodic snapshots of the servers are taken, regular backups are performed via the Arxcis software, and the data is stored at our ultra secure data centre, The Bunker. During Day to day operations, minor restores can be performed as required to recover lost data.
In the event that server failure occurs and major data recovery is required, our team of engineers is contacted to perform a differential restore of the latest backup of your data onto the virtual server snapshot image using our Arxcis backup software. Through this process, the image of the server which suffered the data loss will be repopulated with the data without having to reinstall or reconfigure any aspect of the virtual machine in order for the applications and data to be functional. Because the restore is incremental, it should take only a few moments before the most recent server image is re-built.
Your team will be enabled to connect to your entire system hosted at our data centre using Citrix or a Terminal Server to nearly instantly continue working from home or a workplace relocation office.
